Global Health Professionals Call for Transition Away from Coal

Abstract

On behalf of health professionals around the world, we call on the G7 nations to accelerate the global transition away from coalfired electricity. Eliminating air pollution from coalfired power plants provides immediate and significant air pollutionrelated health benefits and health care savings. A coal phaseout also slows climate change, thereby reducing current and future illnesses and deaths from heat waves, droughts, malnutrition, flooding, air pollution and wildfires.
