The US Climate and Health Alliance Policy Workgroup held its first call on Wednesday, January 18th, 2016. Dr. Bruce Snyder shared information about the Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate letter to the Minnesota state legislature regarding climate change and health (find the letter here).

We heard from people across the country on the need for bold action at the state level to protect and advance progress on climate action for health. There are now numerous efforts aimed at amplifying the voice of health professionals speaking out against harmful legislation and supporting policy and systems change to promote clean, healthy, and equitable energy, transportation, and food systems.

We believe we can align these efforts through a coordinated effort – borrowing from HPHC’s leadership – to inform state legislators throughout the U.S. that the health community knows climate action is necessary to protect our communities and promote health and equity.

We will have a follow-up call to on February 1st at 11 – noon (Pacific time) to discuss how we can support each other and expand the reach of what we are tentatively calling the “climate and health awareness project for state legislators”. We will host the meeting on the GoToMeeting platform in order to more efficiently share resources during the meeting. Please feel free to invite other potentially interested colleagues to participate – especially those you know who live in states other than your own.
