On November 12, the Public Health Institute sponsored a legislative briefing in Sacramento, hosted by Assemblymember Rob Bonta, to inform state legislators and legislative staff about the serious threat that climate change poses to the health of Californians.
The briefing, Asthma, Water Quality, Heat and More: Understanding the health impacts of climate change and how California’s policymakers can make a difference, discussed how global warming harms lung health, threatens people’s access to clean drinking water, threatens crop yields and food supplies, and subjects people to heat illness. Particularly at risk are those communities already overburdened, grappling with poor air quality, poverty, or lack of healthy food access.
